The ULYSSES Network supports several emerging European ensembles, programming concerts where a new repertoire is promoted, thanks to commissions and reruns. hand werk is one of the ensembles benefitting from the Young Ensembles program of the ULYSSES Network. Based in Cologne, Germany, hand werk is known for placing craft and care for the composition and quality of the interpretation in the foreground of their work. The ensemble welcomes pieces that were only played once and then forgotten and is open to works with a rather serious and/or performative character, often also augmenting their core formation by everyday objects, self-made or electronic.

hand werk will be present at the impuls Academy and Festival 20. – 29.7. 2023, in Graz as one of this year´s Young Ensembles in Residence. hand werk will coach academy participants, and hold a Meet the Ensemble event where they will speak about the main aspects of an ensemble’s development, such as profiling, curation, mission and vision statements, professionalisation and public appearance. Finally, the ensemble will work on a Call for Scores organised by impuls. Selected entries are included in readings sessions and  rehearsals, and some of them are performed by the ensemble in a final presentation concert. hand werk is also engaged in the developement of In-Situ/ City: Graz to be premiered and rerun twice at the impuls Festival 2023.
