ULYSSES Journeys offer young composers and performers the opportunity to take part in courses, workshops and residencies, but also to have concrete working experiences, through commissions and concerts.
IEMA-Ensemble 2022/23 invites bassoon player Olivia Palmer-Baker to join the ensemble in a concert on 23 March 2023 as part of her Ulysses Journey. The concert features works by Ondřej Adámek (Ça tourne ça bloque – für 10 Instrumente und Sampler (2007-2008)), Harrison Birtwistle (Secret Theatre for chamber ensemble (1984)) and more.
Olivia can be seen performing with groups including Ensemble Musikfabrik, the Lautten Compagney, Schwelbrandorchester Berlin, she is a member of Kollektiv Unruhe, and she is currently working on a project with composer Faidra Chafta-Douka, exploring the Kontraforte through physical and mental processes. Innovation, exploration, and collaboration are at the core of bassoonist Olivia Palmer-Baker’s activity. Across the spectrum of her pursuits – from historical performance to experimental improvisation – she wishes to discover new sonic possibilities, enable new musical and performative concepts to crystallise, and to create meaningful artistic experiences.
