ManiFeste, the IRCAM multidisciplinary festival and academy, is a gathering of creative artists in Paris, combining music with other disciplines: theatre, dance, digital arts, and visual arts.
This year, after the cancellation of the 2020 edition and the necessary adaptations due to sanitary restrictions for the 2021 edition, the IRCAM team wishes to recapture the essence of the academy’s spirit: emulation generated by the collective. The ManiFeste academy allows for discoveries, discussions, and exchanges among the active participants and listeners, guest artists and composers, and partners.
During ManiFeste-2022, from June 20 to July 2, 2022 in IRCAM and CENTQUATRE-PARIS, IRCAM offers four young composers and one performer to be active participants in three different workshops:

„Writing on the Walls „
How to Expect the Unexpected: on Improvising, transcribing and score-writing
The lectures/workshops focus on reflecting the history and development of improvisation between the ‘90s and the early 2000s; moreover, the focus is on the relationship between written scores and improvised music, and on projects, which tried to combine both;
After a short lecture in the individual concepts, an improvisation-session is started, focusing on the strategies presented in the lecture. Everybody in the group is invited to participate; it is recorded and analyzed collectively afterwards.
The workshop concludes with a concert open to the public during ManiFeste.

# MIXED MUSIC INTERPRETATION WORKSHOP
Concert: Saturday, July 2, 2022 in CENTQUATRE-PARIS
Educational Advisors: IRCAM computer-music designers/lectures
Workshop taught in English, in association with the student musicians from the Pôle Sup’ 93 and students from the ENS Louis-Lumière.
This workshop is intended for composers, sound engineers, or computer music designers who wish to acquire the experience of a professional situation in the musical, technical, and logistical preparation of rehearsals and a mixed music concert. It allows students to acquire the necessary techniques to master and ensure the performance of the electronic parts of a mixed music work.
The two weeks, supervised by IRCAM instructors, consist of group classes and hands-on work in the studio. The workshop is based on specific themes in order to strengthen production methods for the performance of mixed music. They also include an improvisation session (instrument and electronics).
Computer-music design students work in close collaboration with young performers from the Pôle Sup’93, and present the program of works studied in concert.
Each work on the program will be assigned to a student:
Natasha Barrett Liquid Crystal (2000) for clarinet and electronics, 12 min
Mathieu Bonilla Orpaillage (2010), for percussions and electronics, 10 min
Jérôme Combier Kogarashi, le premier soupir des fantômes (2002) for guitar and electronics, 8 min
Pasquale Corrado Wam (2011) for trumpet and electronics, 7 min
One young composer, endorsed by the ULYSSES Network as part of her ULYSSES journey, joins the workshop: Itziar Viloria.
