ULYSSES Journeys offer young composers and performers the opportunity to take part in courses, workshops and residencies, but also to have concrete working experiences, through commissions and concerts.
Three performers have been selected to take part in the Orchestra Conducting Course organised by Divertimento Ensemble in Moncalvo, Piedmont (IT) in September 2023. They are Riccardo Acciarino (clarinet), as part of his ULYSSES Journey, Andor Mészáros (trumpet) and Matteo Borga (trombone), selected from the ULYSSES Platform.
The course is dedicated to repertoire for ensemble from the early 20th Century to the present. Conductor Sandro Gorli leads the course, along with composer tutors Mikel Urquiza, Marco Momi and Tristan Murail. Divertimento Ensemble is the course’s ensemble-in-residence. Conductors benefit from six hours of score analysis and six hours of rehearsals followed by meetings with the tutors. Course participants have the opportunity of rehearsing and playing with the performers of Divertimento Ensemble and participating in all the activities of the course, including the concluding public concerts in Piedmont and one in Milan, during the Rondò 2023 season.
Course programme:
Tristan Murail, Paludes for ensemble
Marco Momi, Iconica IV (2010) for ensemble and electronic
Mikel Urquiza, Tiramisù (2023) for accordion and ensemble
